The Full Moon

What does it mean and how can I do it?

She is back: The full moon. If you are new to working with the moon, you might wonder what the deal is with these full moons. What does it mean? How do you use it and are there any special rituals connected to full moon celebrations. If you are sitting with these questions here a small for you to get started. Let’s go!

The full moon marks the middle of a moon cycle and is what we call the energetic peak of the cycle. At full moon the sun and moon oppose each other why the full moon is as bright as she can be. We use this energy and light to become aware of and face the things inside of us that are blocking us from living the life we came here to live. Think about thoughts that are keeping you down? Do you have any bad habits standing in the way of you and your dream? Are there situations, thought patterns, places or perhaps even people in your life that you need to say goodbye to? We use the energy of the full moon to reflect upon these things and giving it up and release it to and with the full moon. Let things go.

Start by asking yourself what you want to let go of. Once done become aware of your why and how. Why is it important to you to release this thing? And how do you wish to feel on the other side of the release.

Example of habit you would like to let go of:

  • I would like to quit smoking. It is important to be because X. I will feel X once done.

  • I would like to let go of my need to eat candy every night. It is important to be because X. I will feel X once done.

  • I would like to spend less time on phone/tv and more on eg. Books, hobbies, friends, myself. It is important to be because X. I will feel X once done.

Example of a thought pattern you would like to let go of:

  • I would like to release the narrative of me being a victim to life

  • I would like to release the guilt I have around X situation

  • I would like to stop telling myself I can’t and I am not good enough and instead tell myself I can and I am.

Example of things to release

  • I would like to release the relation to X because we do not make each other happy

  • I would like to let go of my current job, apartment, roommate etc.

  • I would like to release my attachment to stuff that clutters up my mind or home.

One thing to remember is, that when we release something old, we create space within ourselves for something new and beautiful to rise up: new habits, new thought patterns, new things and opportunities to enter our lives. Remember when one door closes, another door opens. This is basically what happens when we release at full moon. We let go of old stuff to make space for the new.

Why at the full moon?

We do this at the full moon, because of the energy and symbolism that the full moon carries. She has been building up, and is now ready to release and let go. The full moon physically and metaphorically lights up the things, feelings and emotions we hide inside – from ourselves and others. By illumination she casts her light on whatever needs to go, she gives us a helping hand in the process of facing our own shadows, our guilt, fear, shame and bad habits.

Rituals Isn’t that a bit witchy? It can be, but it does not have to be. most of us run through life without breaks from one thing to the next, from one goal to another. when we celebrate the full moon with rituals we honor the cycles of life and the cycles of the universe. We stop. we pause. we breathe and we celebrate. To me that is what matters the most.

My own rituals vary from cycle to cycle se here some ideas. You can try these out and see what works for you.

  • moon journaling: thinking about what is holding you back in your life and release them by writing them down in your journal.

  • read, watch your favorite movie, relax on the couch, stare at them moon. Release can be hard. Treat yourself nicely.

  • meditate and breathe. close your eyes, take 3 deep breaths while focusing on the point between your eyebrows. Once done, take a deep inhale in 4 seconds, hold breath 4 seconds, release breathe 8 seconds, hold breath out 4 seconds - continue 3-10 times. connect

  • listening to your favorite music - lay on the floor stare up while really listening to what is going on inside of you

  • drink you favorite drink, matcha, cacao, coffee or tea. Wine, Champagne or a GT. <What ever does it for you. You do you.

  • light a candle and stare into the flame. clear your mind

  • go for a swim in the ocean and release the things you have to let go of

  • ground. again release can be emotional. Walk barefoot, eat grounding food. lay on the floor, in the grass on the roof.

  • take a nice bath

  • get together with com’moon’ity. celebrating the cycles is so powerful when we do it together

  • if you work with crystals or other energy tools, place them outside under the full moon.

Most importantly do what feels right for you. There are no rules. no doing it right or wrong. This is about connecting with the cycle of the moon and honor this and yourself and this magical life.

Enjoy!
